Through the Eyes of Children
Through the Eyes of Children: the struggle for change is a book that explores the philosophies and potential of the CHILD idea. Thanks to the CHILD Trust, it is now free to download and you can also buy a printed copies online.
The Children in Local Development (CHILD) approach to participatory community-led development began in some of the poorest and most food insecure communities of Ethiopia. This book describes how CHILD has helped to rediscover the passion and energy for change in the very people that development aims to help. It is the combined efforts of all these courageous individuals and communities that will give us the greatest chance of seeing widespread, irreversible and tangible change.
In the traditional project the staff show you proudly what they have been given and what else they need: in the CHILD sites the staff show you proudly what they have achieved and what else they plan to do. This is the fundamental difference with CHILD
The CHILD approach is a practical, affordable and proven framework for improving the impact and sustainability of a wide range of development programmes. Focusing on the transformation of rural schools into centres that promote local level development, Through the Eyes of Children describes the principles and practical methodology behind the success of CHILD.
CHILD is a message of hope. It reconnects local communities with the great development goals and movements of our time. If we are to achieve the vision of the Millennium Development Goals and to eradicate poverty, then it will be the combined energies and efforts of thousands of people who will bring this change about. Our duty is to support them every step of the way and CHILD is a key to doing this.
With the price of success and failure so high, the opportunity that CHILD represents is one that we cannot afford to miss.
