CHILD in School Feeding
Children In Local Development (CHILD) was developed in Ethiopia as a local level response to the challenges faced by schools in the Ministry of Education and World Food Programme School Feeding Programme. Since 2007, CHILD has been adopted as the implementation approach for all Food for Education schools and has been successfully rolled out to more than 300 sites.
CHILD has also formed the basis of partnerships between WFP "CHILD-based Food for Education" programme and Project Concern International, Population Services International, UNDP, UNICEF, GTZ and the Nile Basin Initiative. Many communities have also formed new partnerships through the CHILD planning process with NGOs working locally.
The experience of implementing CHILD as the framework for Food for Education in Ethiopia has provided a wealth of invaluable experiences as well as proving the effectiveness of the approach.
